It was an off weekend from the Amsoil Championship Snocross Series but that didn\'t stop the Makita Scheuring team riders Robbie Malinoski and Andrew Johnstad from serving notice to the competition that the ball is just beginning to roll.

After scoring his first podium of the season last week, Malinoski picked up the pace leading Johnstad in a 1-2 sweep of the Pro Stock class during the World Championship Derby\'s Friday Night Thunder event. Johnstad then returned the favor leading Malinoski to a team sweep in Pro Open, collecting his first career professional win. All of this followed a dominating qualifying performance in which both riders went 1-2 in all but on heat race.

Saturday saw more of the same with the riders collecting several 1-2 finishes as they qualified for the World Championship finals. On Sunday, both riders launched into the lead of the Pro Stock final only to have one competitor slip by in the first turn. From there it was a follow-the-leader finish, with Johnstad placing second and Malinosk rounding out the podium in third.

The start of the Pro Open final was a bit more ominous. Despite the slow take off, Malinoski fought his way back to a second overall. Johnstad suffered a rare mechanical issue with a broken throttle and was unable to finish.

Any time you can compete and win at the legendary Eagle River World Championships is special. This was especially the case with team partner Amsoil being the title sponsor for the weekend. Both team and riders gained valuable confidence and feedback from the event, which is crucial as we head into Friday’s ACSS round in Shakopee, Minnesota, followed directly by the Winter X-Games in Aspen, Colorado and three straight weeks of racing in the Northeast.

Next event: January 22-23, Canterbury Park, Shakopee, MN.
